Famous Dam Square, the true center of Amsterdam, is a stone's throw away while Amsterdam Central Station is within walking distance at just 700 meters / less than half a mile from our doorstep. On Dam Square you find The Royal Palace, the New Church as well as Madame Tussaud’s wax statues museum.
The NYSE Euronext Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the Beurs van Berlage cultural center as well as Amsterdam’s leading department store, De Bijenkorf, are opposite the hotel.
Transportation
All parts of the city can easily be reached when staying at Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. All major streetcar lines bound for the major points of interest including the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center stop in front of the hotel or very close by.
We do not have our own shuttle service, but there are quite a few easy options to get to the hotel from the airport and back.
The Connexxion Schiphol Airport hotel shuttle stops on Dam Square, right across the street from us. Between 6 am and 9 pm a bus leaves for the city every half an hour. Cost is € 16.50 one way, and € 26.50 return. Duration is about 45 minutes. Alternatively, trains to and from the airport leave at regular intervals all day long. Cost is € 3.90 one way, and it'll take only 20 minutes to arrive at Amsterdam Central Station. Taking a taxi to get to us from the airport is of course your most convenient option, but also most expensive at prices between € 40.00 and € 50.00.
The Sneltaxi cab company can also pick you up at the airport at prices starting at € 47.00. This transaction is between you and Sneltaxi, and Sneltaxi is solely responsible for providing you with this service.
Parking
Parking your car in the inner city is a bit of a challenge. Although there are many parking structures in the vicinity of the hotel (Bijenkorf, Nieuwezijds Kolk and NH Krasnapolsky) cost will always be at least € 50.00 per 24 hours. Of course, it's less expensive to park outside of the city center. However, the P1 Parking at the Central Railway Station, a five minute walk from the hotel, offers remarkably affordable rates if you reserve in advance.
We can also arrange valet parking for you at € 20.00 per day excluding the pick up fee of € 10.00. Upon arrival you can initially leave the car in the Bijenkorf Parking. We will call the valet parking company upon check in, and they'll come and pick up the car about 30 minutes later. You can also give us a call when you're about 30 minutes from the hotel, so we can call the valet parking service, and they'll be waiting for you upon arrival.
