Great value for money, clean hotel, great location
Hotel was in prime location, very close to Central Station right in the heart of the city at Dam Square. Recently refurbished, clean good sized rooms, we had a double bed each in our room. The en suite bathroom was very modern and very clean. The room had all facilities such as a safe, mini bar and plug sockets for both European and English appliances. The beds were very comfortable and the room had plenty of lighting. The hotel was also very secure with keyboard entry to the staircase and lift.

Great location - same as I stayed at in 1962!
Rooms great, not luxurious but NICE, staff outstanding. Loved my front room w/tiny balcony over busy street. Surprisingly, noise no problem at night but major dept store across way is brilliantly lit so drapes must be tightly closed. Only a few rooms have that front exposure, however. Bath very modern but shower design - no door or curtain was a challenge not to get water everywhere. TV system many options, complicated. Hotel's Red Lion restaurant is very popular and extends into street, but glassed in. Trams at door or on paralllel pedestrian street behind hotel will take you anywhere. Central RR station almost walking distance. Royal Palace close by. Deli nearby, also mini supermarket, all on same street.

Nice Hotel in Excellent Location
Delightful and most helpful staff. Hotel itself rather old fashioned but perfectly good enough for a city break.
Just off the Dam Square with trams stopping in front and behind the hotel make this an excellent centre from which to tour Amsterdam.

Best Location in Amsterdam
We came here on our honeymoon and the staff and management were fantastic. They really acknowledged our honeymoon and went out of their way to accommodate us in the best manner possible.
I read other reviews about this place being in a great location, but I was still pleasantly surprised that it was so central to all of the best places Amsterdam had to offer plus just a short walk to the Central train station. Instantly we felt like we were part of that amazing city and its culture. I will undoubtedly stay there again next time I go to Amsterdam.

Good Hotel in an excellent Location
The hotel is really well placed for sightseeing in Amsterdam, being just off Dam Square. It's proximity to Centraal station was also really handy - the hotel was very easy to find. We found the staff to be very friendly, and the room was just fine. I did find that sometimes it was bit noisy - although I'm not sure it was due to the street outside, it almost sounded like there was furniture being moved around on the floor above! Still, it didn't impact things too badly. Overall, we enjoyed out stay here, and would recommend it.

Just Perfect
we stayed at de roode leeuw hotel for 5 nights beginning of August 11.
The hotel has an excellent location just in Dam Sq, with all the caffes and restaurants just a few minutes away.
We bokked the smoking room on the 4th floor and it was really great.
It was big enough for both of us,the mattress was comfortable and we had 24 hours hot water.
The hotel staff is really helpful and willing to assist you to many questions.
Amsterdam is really a very nice city worth viisiting!!!!
We definitely go back and of course stay in the same room!!!!

Will stay here again on our next trip to amsterdam
We stayed at the hotel amsterdam for a short midweek break. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and clean and you couldn't ask for a better location. We stayed in a non-smoking room, but could smell smoke on the curtains. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but there are thousands of food shops nearby. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Warm staff with Warm Attitude
I give the Amsterdam-Hotel De Roode Leeuw a 5 stars rate for some reasons
The first and most important is the hotel staff. the staff was really really professional and had so much patience for our questions and needs, it has no price!
The second is it's location, the hotel located in Dam-Square which is a very central place in Amsterdam. you can walk from there almost to any place in Amsterdam. If you're planning a trip to Amsterdam, the Amsterdam-Hotel would be great choice.

You’re treated like friends at this hotel
On my first time in Amsterdam i loved it, this hotel was central for everything.. the tramp was right outside the door which took you anywhere you wanted to go. across the street was a large department store which is full of big names, just around the corner is streets full of shops, so if you love shopping stay here cause you wont have far to walk with all your bags!!!! The staff was really, really nice, we even got to know a few by name,, and yes Jernone i wont forget your wagon wheels.(haha) We ate breakfast every morning in the hotel and it was lovely, yes it was extra but we had a hearty breakfast and it took us right through the day, also there is a lovely woman who serves you breakfast, and nothing is to much trouble for her. The room we had yes was small but it served its purpose, and the bed and pillows was so comfortable, and clean... We are even thinking of coming back with the kids next year for a short break, I would highly recommend this hotel to any body... Thank you all again...

"Great location - but noisy”
Have just returned from a wonderful week in Amsterdam. The hotel is in a vibrant area of the city but our room at the end of the first floor overlooked a busy and bustling shopping street which even with double glazing made it noisy - paticularly at night. That said the room was very comfortable - the water leak in our bathroom we found on our arrival was sorted very quickly and we had no further problems. The staff were very helpful and the hotel is situated in a great location just by Dam Square.
“Great Location”
Excellent location and easily accessible from Central Station. Tram to Dam Square, but review Amsterdam's transport system before travelling as it is.very user friendly. Hotel was an excellent base for enjoying Amsterdam and staff were very kind and helpful.
“great location”
The hotel looks a little shabby but it is very clean (white sock test). There isn't much storage space in the room we had. The desk staff were very helpful. We ate at the restaurant and it was good. The location is great.

“We'll be back!!”
Good hotel.Rooms are small but clean. Our window faced a brick wall but it was very quiet. The bathroom was very modern with good water pressure.Let's face it you don't go to Amsterdam to spend that much time in the room.Excellent central location within walking distance to most of the attractions.Tram stop right outside the hotel available for those places outside the immediate center. Not even a 10 minute walk to the main train station with convenient service to and from the airport and trains to various day trip destinations.Being in the center there were plenty of food options available from cheap to dear.Would definetly go back to Amsterdam and stay at this hotel again.
“Tulips from Amsterdam”
Our two night stay at Hotel Amsterdam was comfortable. We were upgraded to a double, quite a large sized room (for Amsterdam) with seating corner (with tea/coffee facility-fridge) and modern bathroom with shower, but no shower curtain/door. The hotel is quiet and secure- we did have free wifi. The staff were efficient and friendly, they assisted us with our 20kg bags (there is a decent lift) and all seem fluent in various languages. This hotel is located an easy 10 minute walk from Centraal Station and just next to the "Dam" - the popular city centre-. We thought the hotel's rate was fair, and we consider staying again if returning to this old but fun City. Greg&Jill Sydney-Australia.

“Good value, great location”
Very short walk from the central railway station and practically next door to the Royal Palace and the Dam Square, so great location for walking around the old central city. On checkin we were told that we had been upgraded and our room turned out to be a conference room which was obviously not required as such because we were there on a weekend. The room was very spacious, the pull down bed was quite comfortable, the bathroom new and a great balcony for viewing the main street. The windows and doors were double glazed so kept out most of the street noises. Wi Fi and television access were not included in the tariff. The hotel has a policy that no outside food or drink can be taken into the room and you cannot use the mini bar fridge for anything either, presumably not even for the milk you have to buy for your cup of tea because they only supply powdered creamer (yuk). And that is the only complaint I can think of!
“it was great”
The location is perfect. It's right in the heart of the city. The room was small but very clean and quite comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel restaurant was excellent and particularly appreciated for the great breakfast spread. I knew nothing about Amsterdam or this hotel when I booked our room and I feel like I really lucked out,....it was great. And....I was able to get a smoking room too!
